Software como um Serviço: uma plataforma eficaz para oferta de sistemas holísticos de gestão da performance
This study main objective was to assess the viability of development of a Performance Management (PM) system, delivered in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS), specific for the hospitality industry and to evaluate the benefits of its use. Software deployed in the cloud, delivered and licensed as a service, is becoming increasingly common and accepted in a business context. Although, Business Intelligence (BI) solutions are not usually distributed in the SaaS model, there are some examples that this is changing. To achieve the study objective, design science research methodology was employed in the development of a prototype. This prototype was deployed in four hotels and its results evaluated. Evaluation of the prototype was focused both on the system technical characteristics and business benefits. Results shown that hotels were very satisfied with the system and that building a prototype and making it available in the form of SaaS is a good solution to assess BI systems contribution to improve management performance.O objetivo principal deste estudo é avaliar a viabilidade de

Incorporating waiting time in competitive location models: Formulations and heuristics
In this paper we propose a metaheuristic to solve a new version of the Maximum Capture Problem. In the original MCP, market capture is obtained by lower traveling distances or lower traveling time, in this new version not only the traveling time but also the waiting time will affect the market share. This problem is hard to solve using standard optimization techniques. Metaheuristics are shown to offer accurate results within acceptable computing times.Market capture, queuing, ant colony optimization
Locating emergency services with priority rules: The priority queuing covering location problem
One of the assumptions of the Capacitated Facility Location Problem (CFLP) is that demand is known and fixed. Most often, this is not the case when managers take some strategic decisions such as locating facilities and assigning demand points to those facilities. In this paper we consider demand as stochastic and we model each of the facilities as an independent queue. Stochastic models of manufacturing systems and deterministic location models are put together in order to obtain a formula for the backlogging probability at a potential facility location. Several solution techniques have been proposed to solve the CFLP. One of the most recently proposed heuristics, a Reactive Greedy Adaptive Search Procedure, is implemented in order to solve the model formulated. We present some computational experiments in order to evaluate the heuristics’ performance and to illustrate the use of this new formulation for the CFLP. The paper finishes with a simple simulation exercise.Location, queuing, greedy heuristics, simulation

EXPORT COMMITMENT AND CHARACTERISTICS OF MANAGEMENT CRITICAL FACTORS FOR SUCCESS An Empirical Study In The Portuguese and United Kingdom SMES In A Textile, Clothing and Knitwear Sector
The internalisation of small and medium sized firms (SMES) is emerging as an area of
research interest as an increasing number of such firms become actively engaged in
international activity, often from inception. All available literature reveals that
conventional theories were mainly developed to describe the internationalisation of large
multinationals companies MNC and not SME(s). This study provides an overview of the
macro economics as well as the microeconomic theory that supports the process of
internationalisation of firms. Furthermore, each theory was critically analysed in relation to
their limitations, as well as their theoretical contribution to the process of the
internationalisation of SME. A theoretical model was developed from the literature
review. The objective was to investigate which factors (firms' and decision-makers'
characteristics), in the Portuguese and UK textile, clothing and knitwear sectors are
associated with export performance.
Results indicated consistency in the findings relating to firms' size, competitive
advantages, ability to speak foreign languages and nationality, for several dimensions of
export behaviour. However, the factors: age, international experience, risk perception, cost
perception and profitability perception are not supported as being influential to export
performance in this study
Modular evolution of the carnivoran pelvic girdle: a three-dimensional morphometric approach
Martín-Serra, A., Figueirido, B., Serrano, F., Palmqvist, P. MODULAR EVOLUTION OF THE CARNIVORAN PELVIC GIRDLE: A THREE-DIMENSIONAL MORPHOMETRIC APPROACH. 75th meeting of Vertebrate Palaeontology. Dallas (Texas). Journal of Vertebrate Palaeontology Supplement (Program and Abstracts) P. 176The pelvic girdle is a key skeletal structure within the appendicular skeleton in
quadrupedal mammals. The pelvis anchors many important muscles and connects the hind limb to the axial skeleton. However, unlike other appendicular bones, each hemipelvis is composed of three different girdle bones: ilium, ischium and pubis.
Here we investigate if the functional and developmental interactions among these
bones accounts for the integration and modularity of the pelvis in mammalian carnivores.
We use carnivorous mammals as a case study because our recent work has demonstrated that their appendicular skeleton is also integrated by functional reasons. A series of landmarks in 3D on one half of the pelvic girdle were digitized in a wide sample of living carnivorans. The landmarks were divided into four basic developmental units: illium, ischium, pubis and acetabulum. The latter was considered as a different unit because it interacts with the femoral head during development. Later, we tested different modularity hypotheses that consider all possible modules formed by the combination of these four developmental units. For each hypothesis, we calculated the RV coefficient, a proxy for morphological covariation. We compared each specific hypothesis with a distribution of RV coefficients resulting from randomly-defined modules to assess for statistical significance.
One of the hypotheses with more statistical support separates the four original units as modules, which indicates a strong influence of development. Other supported hypotheses clearly point towards an association between the ischium and the pubis, with the illium and acetabulum more or less independent. However, these hypotheses cannot be unequivocally ascribed to functional interactions, because the ischium and the pubis also share some developmental processes. These results clearly indicate that the carnivoran pelvic girdle preserves a developmental modular structure with little modification attributable to functional adaptations, which agrees with previous studies that showed that the pelvis is conservative within each carnivoran family.Universidad de Málaga. Triangulations and a discrete Brunn-Minkowski inequality in the plane
For a set of points in the plane, not all collinear, we denote by the number of triangles in any triangulation of ; that is, where and are the numbers of points of in the
boundary and the interior of (we use to denote "convex hull of

for any two point sets one has
We prove this conjecture in several cases: if , if ,
if , or if none of or has interior points.Comment: 30 page
Analysis of the impact of the Asset Health Index in a Maintenance Strategy
Hosted by the Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria. May 23-24, 2019
- European Safety, Reliability & Data Association (ESReDA)During many years, asset management methodologies used in industry were focused
on knowing and analysing the operational control of the daily work and the impact of
the maintenance on the availability. Later, the costs turn into the priority, and
strategies were focused on assesses a longer lifecycle and optimizing processes and
contracts. Finally, recent normative have included concepts as “knowing and
managing the risks” and the target is to prioritize the maintenance tasks to the
critical assets. However, taking a balanced asset management model for the
operational environment, quite a lot of facilities of Oil & Gas sector are reaching the
end of their initially estimated lifecycle. New challenges are related to extend the life
of the main items of the facilities or at least, to find the optimal replacement moment
that guarantees that the maintenance strategy is being optimized.
Asset Health Index methodology considers a theoretical lifecycle of an item, in which
depending on the proximity to the end of the useful life, the probability of failure
increases. But take this theoretical lifecycle as a base, different operation location
factors or O&M aspects can modify this period. All these factor are quantified and
permit us to calculate a new theoretical profile.
This paper is about assess the impact of the AHI into the maintenance strategy
optimisation. AHI enables us to compare future alternative cost profiles and assess
the impact in the failure probability of the item. As a result, we are able to know the
risk that is taken when we enlarge the operation of an item, and the impact in the
operational costs
